Idaho Speech-Language Pathologist License Renewal Procedure

SLP licenses expire each year on your birthdate, even if the issuance of the license is close to that date. You will still receive a renewal notice six weeks prior to the expiration date. But before you can submit your renewal application you will have to complete continuing education (CE) hours.

Renewals are submitted through the Board’s online licensing portal and you can pay the $80 fee here as well. The portal will not be open to process renewals early, so everyone must wait six weeks before their birth date before applying.

During your first renewal cycle, you won’t be required to obtain CE hours. However, every year after you will need 10 hours of CE, or 30 hours every three years, to maintain licensure. Licensees are responsible for holding on to all CE verification documentation. The documents should contain your attendance record and other verifying information signed by the course provider, instructor, or sponsor.

If the Board asks for this information, you’ll need to produce the documentation on demand. Audits are conducted each year to be sure licensees remain compliant with the CE requirements. The renewal application simply asks you to certify with a “Yes” answer that you’ve met the CE requirements. Therefore, if your application is chosen for an audit, you’ll have to submit paperwork confirming each course.

The Board provides a list of approved CE courses to choose from. Whether it’s a class, workshop, seminar, or convention, the subject matter must be related to the profession of speech-language pathology.

A maximum of ten hours can be carried over one time from the immediately preceding year.  If you have any questions about the renewal process, contact the Board at (208) 577-2627 or renewal@dopl.idaho.gov.

If you are an active member of the military, you may have your renewal fees waived. View more information on the state’s benefits for members of the armed forces online.
