South Dakota Speech-Language Pathology Assistant Certification Renewal Procedure

To renew your speech-language pathology assistant license in South Dakota, you must fill out the required forms and pay the renewal fee using a check or money order or complete the online form and pay the renewal fee online. Licenses must be renewed every two years, and all licenses expire on October 1st, the second year after they were issued. The check should be payable to the South Dakota Board of Speech-Language Pathology.

License holders who submit a renewal application within 30 days of expiration may be granted a renewal. However, those who submit a renewal application between 30 and 180 days after the expiration date must pay a $50 late fee in addition to the regular renewal fee of $100. License holders who fail to renew their license within 180 days of the expiration of the previous license will need to reapply for licensure, and all applicable fees will be required.

To complete the renewal process, you must also provide evidence that you completed at least 20 contact hours or 2.0 CEUs each two-year renewal period.

You must include the following documentation with your renewal application:

  • Certificate of attendance
  • Unofficial college transcript
  • ASHA CEU transcript

The Board advises licensees to maintain a personal file that contains all continuing education information gathered during the licensing period. Original documents must be kept for personal records, while only copies should be submitted.
