Like most states, Illinois has a licensure-by-endorsement process for those already licensed in another U.S. state or territory. The following information is required to become licensed this way:

  • Verification of holding a master’s or doctoral degree in speech-language pathology
  • Verification that nine months of full-time supervised experience was completed
  • Verification that you passed the Praxis exam
  • Copy of Certificate of Clinical Competence given by ASHA
  • Copies of any professional licenses you hold or held in the past sent directly from the licensing agency
  • Verification that the training received is equivalent to the educational requirements set forth by the IDFPR
  • $100 application fee

Candidates for endorsement can practice as a speech-language pathologist without an Illinois license for 90 days after submitting the application or until the license is issued, whichever happens first.

You can download the licensure-by-endorsement application packet from the Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulation (IDFPR) website.
