Kentucky Speech-Language Pathologist License Reciprocity Process

Kentucky allows individuals who earned their SLP license in another state to be granted licensure if the out-of-state education they received their out-of-state education is equivalent. That permits skilled SLPs to move into the state and begin practicing without retaking the Praxis exam.

While you wait for your application to be reviewed by the Board, which meets on a monthly basisevery month, you will be given a temporary license to begin practicing. The license is valid for 180 days or until the Board makes a decision regarding the application.

  • Copy of your current SLP license sent directly to the Board from the issuing state agency
  • The license must be in “good standing”
  • Praxis exam scores
  • Verification of master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology

The information is submitted through the online portal for review. Once the board reconvenes for their next meeting, they will make a decision, and you’ll be notified via email.
