Indiana Speech Pathologist License Renewal Process

You will receive a notice to renew the license at least 90 days before it expires. The process can be done online or you can mail the application for renewal to:

Professional Licensing Agency
402 West Washington Street
Room W072
Indianapolis, Indiana 46204

Renewals take place every two years, and SLPs must complete 36-hours of continuing education (CE). There is an exception for those who have not had their initial license for a full year. The Board wants to make sure all SLPs have the latest information regarding techniques and procedures used in the field.

There are a few Board-approved activities you can participate in to earn the required 36 hours. Any scientific and professional state organizations offering educational programs are acceptable. Post-secondary courses that aren’t required for licensure can also be taken as long as the content focuses on practicing speech-language pathology.

Self-study is another way you can earn hours, but you’re only permitted to acquire a maximum of six hours using this method. Self-study includes:

  • Reading journals and books about speech-language pathology
  • Listening to speech-language pathology audio tapes
  • Watching educational films and videos related to speech-language pathology
  • Visiting facilities
  • Conducting meetings with other SLP professionals
  • Having articles you’ve written published

The renewal fee is $100, and checks and money order should be made payable to the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency. Any applications post-marked after the expiration date will require a $50 late fee be included. Those who answer Yes to any disciplinary question on the form will need to send a detailed statement explaining their answer.

Once all of the required documents have been received, the Board will process the application within four-weeks. The information is then updated in the system. You can order a physical license or certificate for a fee. Original Communication Disorders licenses are valid for the duration of the academic school year. Visit the Board’s website to view the instructions provided for the renewal process.
