Continuing education (C.E.) is an ongoing part of a licensed SLPA’s career. Innovative minds are always creating new technology to assist. Not to mention, new concepts and methods are introduced to improve patient diagnosis and treatment. All SLPAs must complete a minimum C.E. hour requirement and provide proof of its completion before having their license renewed.

Twenty hours is the minimum C.E. requirement, with 18 being clinically related and the other two in Medical Error. The Board provides a list of approved courses here. Any ASHA-approved courses will also be accepted.

You can also use the Board’s website to sign up for the tracking system. Choose from a free or subscription-based account to record your courses, educator’s information, and other verifying factors the Board needs.

Here is a list of a few other ways you can earn C.E. hours:

  • Attending a Board meeting for 2 hours
  • Maximum of 5 hours every two years from presenting or moderating C.E. hours
  • Maximum of 5 hours every two years instructing a graduate-level class
  • Maximum of 2 hours every two years from non-paid supervised clinical experience
  • Attending graduate-level clinical courses at a rate of 15 C.E. hours for each semester hour of coursework

Once you’ve satisfied the Board’s requirements, it takes 7-10 business days to complete the renewal.
