WV Speech-Language Pathologist Certification Renewal Procedure

Provisional licenses are valid for one year as you complete the clinical fellowship experience. They can be renewed only once for one additional year if you have not earned the necessary hours for the CF. The fee to renew this license is $50.

All full licenses expire every two years on December 31st. The expiration date always falls in an even-numbered year. Around October the board will notify licensees of the upcoming expiration date by mail. You are given one year to renew the license, even if it expires. Simply pay the regular renewal cost and late fee.

The renewal fee is $175 and the late fee is $75. You can make these payments through the online renewal portal, or print a copy of the application and mail it to:

WV Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology
99 Edmiston Way
Box 11, Suite 214
Buckhannon, WV 26201

Make checks payable to the WVBESLPA.

Continuing education (CE) is a requirement for all licensees. Twenty hours must be spent performing activities that will improve your competencies in the profession. Of those 20 hours, two need to be earned in Ethics CE. This applies to those licensed between January and June of the first year of the renewal cycle.

Just like application fees CE hours are also prorated according to when your license was issued.

  • Licensed between July-December of the licensing period’s first year – 15 hrs./2 hrs. Ethics
  • Licensed between January-June of the licensing period’s second year – 10 hrs./1 hr. Ethics
  • Licensed between July-December of the licensing period’s second year – No CE requirements

Attend workshops, seminars, courses, and more approved by the Board or ASHA. At the end of each activity, complete a CE Course Completion form and have the course presenter sign it for verification. Although you won’t need to submit each form with your renewal application, you will need to produce the documents if audited by the Board.
