Tennessee Speech-Language Pathologist License Renewal Procedure

Once you have gotten your permanent speech-language pathology license, it is crucial to ensure that you keep it updated. In Tennessee, the renewal deadline is the same as the expiration date indicated on the renewal certificate.

You can apply online and pay the required renewal fees of $60 or opt for a paper renewal to renew your license. If you choose the latter option, the Board will mail you a renewal application form to the last address they have on file for you. It’s important to note that you need to receive this notification to fulfill all the requirements for renewal.

To ensure eligibility for license renewal, you must submit the following to the Tennessee Board of Communication Disorders and Sciences on or before the due date for renewal:

  • A completed Renewal Application form
  • The renewal and state regulatory fees
  • Attestation on the Renewal Application form to indicate and certify completion of continuing education requirements.

To renew your SLP license, you must complete 10 hours of continuing education, with 5 hours in your specialty and the other five covering speech-language pathology. As for new licensees, successful completion of all education and training requirements necessary for licensure in Tennessee during the 12 months preceding licensure will count as a continuing education credit for the initial licensure period, in accordance with Rule 1370-01-.04.

The Tennessee Association of Audiologists & Speech-Language Pathologists offers continuing education opportunities that are available to speech-language pathologists practicing in Tennessee. Additionally, the association offers professional and legislative advocacy services.

Make sure to renew your license before the due date to avoid paying a late renewal fee of $120. Also, note that the Board cannot accept debit/credit card payments over the phone or in person. However, you may pay using a debit/credit card or e-check online. Also, ensure that the address on your card matches the address in the licensure system; otherwise, you will receive an error message, and your renewal will not be processed.
