Pennsylvania Speech-Language Pathologist License Renewal Procedure

Licenses expire July 31st every two years. A renewal notice is sent out to remind you to complete the process through the online system. The system opens up 30 to 60 days before your expiration date to allow enough time for processing. You can pay the $65 fee online.

During each renewal period, SLPs are required to obtain 20 clock hours of continuing education (CE). Programs approved by the Board for CE are listed below:

  • ASHA-sponsored or approved programs
  • American Academy of Audiology (AAA) sponsored or approved programs
  • Programs and courses offered by the state department of education or a regionally accredited institution

Credit will be issued for any workshops, seminars, or courses focused on expanding your competencies in speech-language pathology. You can also earn credit for leading training sessions for SLPs, or having a speech-language pathology article published in a peer-reviewed journal.

At the end of each CE activity, you will need to record the following information on a form provided by the board:

  • Course title and content description
  • Dates attended
  • Continuing education hours completed
  • The location of the course

Each year the board randomly audits renewal applications to ensure the CE requirement is being met. Should you be selected for an audit you will need to provide proof of compliance by producing the records of completion. The board asks that you hold on to this information for a minimum of four years.
