Ohio Speech-Language Pathology Assistant License Reciprocity Process

In Ohio, reciprocity refers to the process where a licensed professional (SLPA) in good standing can apply for an Ohio license using their license from another state. However, it’s important to note that being licensed in another state does not automatically guarantee an Ohio license.

If you meet certain criteria, the Ohio Board of Speech-Language Pathology may waive their examination and educational and professional experience requirements.

Proof of current SLPA licensure in another state with equivalent standards must be presented.

Hold ASHA CCCs or American Board of Audiology certification.

The Ohio Board of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology also participates in the Audiology & Speech Language Pathology Interstate Compact (ASLP-IC), which promotes mutual recognition between member states and any new state that enacts legislation to join the Compact. This facilitates the ability of SLPAs to practice across state borders, resulting in expanded employment opportunities and improved access to care for healthcare providers and their patients.
