Maine Speech-Language Pathologist License Reciprocity Process

Speech-language pathologists holding a license in another jurisdiction can become licensed in Maine through a process called reciprocity by submitting the following information:

  • Complete a Board-approved application
  • Supply verification of licenses you currently have or have held
  • Verification of your current license, and it must be in good standing
  • $71 payment for the license and background check

The standard for licensure in the jurisdiction you were originally licensed must be equivalent to the standards Maine sets for SLPs. Sending the Board a copy of the issuing state’s laws will be accepted and reviewed. The process takes about three weeks before you are notified that you are eligible to practice as a licensed SLP.
