Louisiana Speech-Language Pathology Assistant License Reciprocity Process

Licensure by reciprocity allows those currently holding an SLPA license in another state, Commonwealth, territory, or the District of Columbia to attain a license in Louisiana without retaking the exam. The requirements are as follows:

  • The licensure requirements for SLPAs in the initial issuing state are substantially equal to the requirements for licensure in Louisiana
  • The state, commonwealth, territory, or District of Columbia where the license was acquired extends the same reciprocity process to Louisiana license holders
  • The state, Commonwealth, territory, or District of Columbia that issued the initial license requires the successful completion of an exam

The Board can allow anyone who meets the above requirements to practice in the state until their application is processed. The processing time is currently three to four weeks.
