Georgia Speech-Language Pathologist License Renewal Procedure

On March 31st of odd-numbered years all licenses expire. The biennial renewal fee is $60. You can file the application online or request a paper renewal coupon be mailed to you by calling (404) 424-9966. After completing the paper renewal form mail it to:

Whether you renew online or by mail you’ll be able to check your license status through the online portal.

Continuing education is expected of all licensees between renewal periods. SLPs are expected to maintain and enhance they are professional competencies while practicing in the state. One continuing education unit (CEU) is equal to 10 clock hours of continuing education (CE). SLP’s are expected to obtain 2 CEUs during each renewal cycle.

If you’re a newly licensed SLP you’re CPU requirements will be prorated during the first biennium period. If your license was approved during the second six months of the two-year cycle, you’ll need 1.5 CEUs. Those approved during the third six month. Will need one CEU. If you’re approved during the final six-month period, you will not be required to obtain CEUs.

In order for this CEU hours to count towards your license renewal you’ll need educational experiences directly related to speech language pathology. some examples of approved activities include:

  • Scientific and educational lectures
  • Workshops or seminars
  • College and university level courses
  • Presentations given by the licensee
  • Audio and video conferences
  • Online courses
  • Teleconferences
  • Self-study courses that offer an exam at the end

Store all certificates of completion for CEUs for at least three years. The board does not maintain a copy of these documents. On your renewal application you’ll be asked to attest to satisfying the CEU requirements. If your application is chosen during one of the Board’s random audits, you will need to produce proof that the CEU was completed.
