Colorado Speech-Language Pathologist License Renewal Procedure

License renewals take place each year on November 30th. So that you are not blindsided by the renewal, the expiration date is posted to your online account. About six weeks before the licensing expires, you’ll receive the renewal notification.

One of the stipulations for renewal is participating in the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program. Licensees must complete the Reflective Self-Assessment Tool (RSAT) during each renewal period. Then, a Learning Plan is developed based on the results of the RSAT and submitted to the Department for review.

Each licensee must complete ten hours of Professional Development Activities (PDA) each year. PDA activities are divided into the following six categories:

  • Group Study
  • Volunteer Service
  • Independent Learning
  • Mentoring/Supervision
  • Coursework
  • Presentations

You can earn your CPD through at least two of the categories, and no more than 5 hours are credited in each section. The Department doesn’t ask you to turn in your CPD hours at the end of the renewal cycle. Instead, random compliance audits are conducted during the year.

If chosen for an audit, you need to produce the following documents:

  • A completed and signed Learning Plan
  • Documentation of the PDA in compliance with the Department’s rules

After paying the renewal fee, it takes 2-3 weeks for the application to be processed.
