SLP Licensure Guides

  • Initial Licensure

This pathway is for individuals who are interested in completing a master’s degree in speech‑language pathology, the required supervised clinical practicum and fellowship, and pass the national exam—enabling them to acquire their first New Mexico SLP license. It’s aimed at professionals entering roles in schools, clinics, hospitals, or private practice.

  • License Renewal

This pathway applies to currently licensed SLPs in New Mexico who must periodically renew their license by completing required continuing education and submitting renewal fees. It ensures practitioners stay up-to-date, maintain professional competence, and remain legally authorized to practice.

  • Reciprocity (Out-of-State)

This pathway is for speech‑language pathologists already licensed in another U.S. jurisdiction who wish to practice in New Mexico. It allows eligible professionals to transfer their credentials by meeting New Mexico’s licensure equivalency standards, enabling them to begin practicing without needing to start over.
